Los datos se miden, se recopilan, se comunican y se analizan, tras lo cual pueden visualizarse mediante gr\u00e1ficos o im\u00e1genes. Los datos, como concepto abstracto, pueden considerarse el nivel m\u00e1s bajo de abstracci\u00f3n, del que se derivan la informaci\u00f3n y, posteriormente, el conocimiento. Los datos brutos, es decir, sin procesar, se refieren a una colecci\u00f3n de n\u00fameros, caracteres y es un t\u00e9rmino relativo; el procesamiento de datos suele producirse por etapas, y los \"datos procesados\" de una etapa pueden considerarse los \"datos brutos\" de la siguiente. Los datos de campo se refieren a los datos brutos que se recogen en un entorno in situ no controlado. Los datos experimentales son los que se generan en el contexto de una investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica mediante la observaci\u00f3n y el registro.
