Una caracter\u00edstica distintiva es que limita las fotos a una forma cuadrada, similar a las im\u00e1genes de Kodak Instamatic y Polaroid, en contraste con la relaci\u00f3n de aspecto 4:3 que suelen utilizar las c\u00e1maras de los dispositivos m\u00f3viles. Los usuarios tambi\u00e9n pueden aplicar filtros digitales a sus im\u00e1genes. La duraci\u00f3n m\u00e1xima de los v\u00eddeos de Instagram es de 15 segundos. Instagram fue creada por Kevin Systrom y Mike Krieger, y lanzada en octubre de 2010.
