Es un tipo de etiqueta de metadatos. Las palabras o frases en mensajes de servicios de microblogging y redes sociales como Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Twitter o VK pueden etiquetarse introduciendo # delante de ellas, ya sea tal y como aparecen en una frase, por ejemplo, \"Se anuncian nuevos artistas para el Festival de M\u00fasica #SXSW2014\" o a\u00f1adidas a ella. El t\u00e9rmino hashtag tambi\u00e9n puede referirse al propio s\u00edmbolo hash cuando se utiliza en el contexto de un hashtag. Un hashtag permite agrupar mensajes etiquetados de forma similar, y tambi\u00e9n permite que una b\u00fasqueda electr\u00f3nica devuelva todos los mensajes que lo contienen.
