Deze omvatten online reclametechnologie\u00ebn, zoeken, cloudcomputing en software. De meeste winst wordt gemaakt met AdWords, een online reclamedienst die advertenties in de buurt van de lijst met zoekresultaten plaatst. Google is opgericht door Larry Page en Sergey Brin toen ze promovendi waren aan de Stanford University. Samen bezitten ze ongeveer 14 procent van de aandelen, maar controleren ze 56 procent van de stemrechten van de aandeelhouders via supervoting stock. Op 4 september 1998 richtten ze Google op als een besloten vennootschap. Een beursgang volgde op 19 augustus 2004.
