Marketingtechnieken omvatten het kiezen van doelmarkten door marktanalyse en marktsegmentatie, maar ook het begrijpen van consumentengedrag en het adverteren van de waarde van een product aan de klant. Vanuit maatschappelijk oogpunt is marketing de link tussen de materi\u00eble behoeften van een samenleving en haar economische reactiepatronen. Marketing bevredigt deze behoeften en wensen door uitwisselingsprocessen en het opbouwen van langetermijnrelaties. Marketing combineert kunst en toegepaste wetenschap (zoals gedragswetenschappen) en maakt gebruik van informatietechnologie.
