Um URL \u00e9 um tipo espec\u00edfico de identificador uniforme de recursos (URI), embora muitas pessoas utilizem os dois termos indistintamente. Um URL implica os meios para aceder a um recurso indicado, o que n\u00e3o \u00e9 verdade para todos os URI. Os URLs ocorrem mais frequentemente para referenciar p\u00e1ginas Web (http), mas tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o utilizados para transfer\u00eancia de ficheiros (ftp), correio eletr\u00f3nico (mailto), acesso a bases de dados (JDBC) e muitas outras aplica\u00e7\u00f5es. A maioria dos navegadores Web apresenta o URL de uma p\u00e1gina Web por cima da p\u00e1gina, numa barra de endere\u00e7os.
